Bilateral submandibular duct relocation for chronic sialorrhea: a 15 years of experience in children with a neurological disorder

Background: Chronic sialorrhea is a troublesome condition for children with neurological disorders that affect swallowing. Various surgical procedures reflecting drooling cases are helpful. Some of them could be followed by complications or lead to over–dryness the mouth. This article aims highlight safety and effectiveness bilateral submandibular duct relocation (BSDR) on fifteen years experience. Material methods: A retrospective chart review identified 25 patients chronic who underwent BSDR. Clinical demographic data were reviewed. Surgical outcomes assessed both Wilkie Brody's criteria Teacher (TDS) scale. Results: The mean age was 11.7 years. They had dribbled saliva an average 4.28 according TDS which falls 1.12 after surgery. By referring criteria, 88% results have been labelled as excellent good others. Conclusion: Our 15 experience in managing neurologically impaired profuse illuminates supports our trend BSDR without sublingual gland excision. procedure safe, effective against drooling, protects oral health, provides high rate success.
